
This three-hour course introduces the student to political theory with an emphasis on the American founding. We will examine the foundational ideas that inform American political history and contribute to the underlying political theory per key texts and influential thinkers. Particular attention is given to the development of documents and institutions uniquely created at the inception of the United States of America.
Students engage
in multiple activities during the semester which facilitates a thorough
understanding of this topic both from an academic and practical sense. Woven
throughout the course will be opportunities for students to apply what they
learn to current issues and debate proposed solutions based on various theories
and philosophies.
